3 Daily Habits that Build Your Energy Levels

3 Daily Habits that Build Your Energy Levels
October 4, 2017 Linda Murray

For most of us, our smartphones aren’t just a way for staying in touch with our friends, associates and loved ones. They have become an inseparable extension of ourselves. It feels like our phones are as important to us as our own hands and arms.

We’ve become dependent upon them because apps make our lives easier and more productive. It’s little wonder so many of us now sleep with our phones. Just like coffee and many other legal stimulants, most of us can’t function without our phone!

Since they play such an integral role in our daily lives, most of us make an effort to take care of our phones, keeping their batteries charged so that they are ready and able to perform for us at a moment’s notice.

The Importance of Taking the Time to Recharge and Replenish Our Energy

Unfortunately, many of us don’t value our own bodies as much as we do our phones, and we wonder why we feel tired and drained all of the time.  As humans, we have four main types of energy from which we draw power: mental, physical, emotional and spiritual energy.

Just like there are apps that demand more energy from your phone’s battery to work properly, each of these four types of energy get drained at different rates. They can also be recharged by different activities.

3 Easy Ways to Recharge Throughout the Day

If we really want to be able to count on our bodies, and have the power that we need to lead and get things done, we need to do these things:

Be Positive

It’s easy to waste a lot of time and energy imaging the worst possible outcome for any situation. Worrying, focusing on what could go wrong, or otherwise obsessing about all the negative things that might happen drains our energy.

Instead of focusing on what could go wrong, think of what may go right and what steps you can take to tip the scales in your favour. Look at the situation from different perspectives. Rather than focusing on all the negative details, try reviewing the situation from someone else’s perspective. Think about how your viewpoint might change once some time passes.

Practice visualising the situation and what needs to happen for everything to go right. What steps do you need to take to achieve success in the situation? Rather than draining your energy and weakening your resolve by convincing yourself that you will fail, increase your energy, and your determination to do your best by assuming that great things are going to happen!

Be Grateful

Another way to recharge your energy, and increase your confidence and optimism is to practice feeling, and expressing gratitude. Do you practice being grateful on a regular basis? Take some time out of your day to thank the people in your life that help you, no matter how large, or small, the amount of assistance that they provide to you. Write a thank you note, or pick up the phone and thank someone for their thoughtfulness and their hard work to get the job done. Take the people that you care about out to lunch or dinner.

Showing our appreciation benefits both us, and the people we show our gratitude to. Being grateful helps us to develop stronger bonds of trust and respect, and gives us greater insight into how others feel. Little acts of kindness, and gratitude go a long way to rebuild out energy reserves, as well as help us to recharge the batteries of those who we count on!

Be Completely Present

Another activity that can leave us drained is allowing our focus to get pulled into a million and one different directions throughout the day. Contrary to popular belief, multi-tasking often decreases our energy and productivity levels.

Practice eliminating distractions throughout your day and focus on the tasks that are truly important for you to accomplish. Learn to be present in each moment as you complete a task before you move on to the next one. Being in the “now,” helps us to work faster, with less energy, leaving us with a larger reserve of energy at the end of day.

It’s not just important to be present and focused at work, but also in our personal lives.

Take the time to focus on what you are eating during mealtimes, and participate in conversations and activities with your family and friends. Take control of your energy and know what it feels like, and means, to be fully aware and alive!
